The CPA is a Christian Democratic party whose members come from all backgrounds and church traditions. We actively promote Christian social teaching and draw our principles from the Bible, especially the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

The Christian Peoples Alliance is a party rooted in the historic Christian faith. It seeks, through political service, to demonstrate God’s love. Our faith and principles are drawn from the Bible, especially the life and teaching of Jesus, as well as from Christian political insights through the centuries.

We were founded in 2000 by leading members of the non-party Movement for Christian Democracy, which in turn was formed in 1991 by a group of cross-party Christian Members of Parliament. The CPA has adopted the same principles and social vision, summarised as the Six Principles of Christian Democracy. These are, Active Compassion, Respect for Life, Social Justice, Wise Stewardship, Empowerment, and Reconciliation.

We believe that Christianity gives a vision for the whole of politics – through principles, policies, peacemaking, economic policy, and ethics. The Bible as God’s revelation, including Jesus’ words and life, are our central guide. We see his death and resurrection as the central human event, bringing peace with God, and true spiritual insight and social concern. We want to live within God’s love and forgiveness, rather than remain within the old patterns of human failure in life and in politics.

From the first, the Christian Peoples Alliance puts faith at the centre of politics.

Since our formation, the CPA has carried the backing of Christian Democratic parties across Europe, the support of Church leaders of all denominational backgrounds, and encouragement from leading members across the faiths. We are members of the European Christian Political Movement.

The CPA is a voluntary party, with no full-time paid staff. Our offices are run from Hitchin by volunteers.

The CPA Federal Council is the governing group responsible for the adoption of the policy of the CPA. It also has the task of growing the party into a vibrant organisation across the UK, with radical Christian Democratic policies that win elections. The CPA Council meets regularly throughout the year to determine where the party should be going. It is chaired by the CPA President.

The Federal Executive Committee is responsible for day to day decision-making and is also chaired by the President. The Policy Committee formulates draft statements of policy for submission to the Council and is chaired by the Leader.

The Federal Council conducts most of its business through committees. These include the Candidates Committee, which is chaired by the CPA Nominating Officer and interviews all potential regional, EU, or Westminster candidates, and the Conference Arrangements Committee which organises the AGM and other events. Training, Regional Development, Communications, Fundraising, Membership, and Election Management committees, are chaired by Executive members responsible for those areas and include people in the party with suitable expertise.

CPA Federal Council Members serve a two-year term. Nominations may come from all members of the CPA who wish to be involved with the growth and development of the Party. Council members are encouraged to attend all Council meetings and an attendance register is kept. This information is available to members on request.

Any paid-up member of CPA who agrees with the Christian aims and values set out in the CPA Constitution, may apply to the Nominating Officer to join the Candidates Panel. Candidates approved by a process of interview are selected from this Panel for national and regional elections.
